Planning Committee

Building And Grounds

About Us -

The Building & Grounds committee operates as a subcommittee of the Finance & Administration committee, one of the parish's five standing committees. Projects and expenditures are recommended through the Finance & Administration committee to the pastor for approval prior to execution. Finances are applied from operating or capital improvement funds depending on the nature of the expenditure according to usual and customary accounting and financial procedures. The committee aims to attain pre-set objectives by completing needed projects at minimal cost.

The committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00PM at St John Neumann's. The meetings follow a semi formal agenda the is always left open ended for other topics. Discussion is spontaneous and lively leading to excellent results. The types of projects that the committee is responsible for are maintainence and replacement of existing infrastucture items. Building & Grounds is always being asked to take on projects that are not presently in place. Those projects must be addressed by the Future Planning Committee and endorsed by the Parish Council prior to this committee's involvement..

We Need Your Input -

We are constantly looking for ways to represent the needs of the parishoners. There are three general categories of participation.

1) Regular Member - A regular member may or may not have any experience in any type of project work. They are able to make many of the meetings and freely enter into discussion. They are able to operate as a project manager and in doing so lead projcts to successful completion while keeping the committee advised of progress and needs. The one thing that we ask of regular members is that they leave their personal needs at the door. We strive to represent the overall needs of the parish and if that happens to fall within the personal concern of a project manager, so much the better.

2) Project Experts - We have put together a list of parishoners that are knowlegable in various fields and we use them as resources to evaluate options and alternatives. Most of them are not able to regularly attend meetings but are glad to attend or provide input to projects that fall with in their expertise.

3) Sources of Ideas - The last category is the most valuable. It is comprised of parishoners that bring their ideas to us or are able to point out areas in need of repair that have not been added to our list below for consideration. If a parishoner feels that they would like to attend one of our meetings, they are always welcome to present their thoughts on any of the topics that are discussed.

Present Activity -

In the less than one year that we have been in exsistence, we are pleased to announce that we have been able to act on an impressive number of items that required immediate attention to stave off rising maintenence and use costs.

We have three projects under way that will be completed before this winter. First, we are doing a moderate amount of maintenance to the upper level parking lot that includes sealing existing cracks and seams around the new curbing, applying a sand seal coat to the surface, and repainting the parking lines. Second, the original sign by the highway is continuing to tip and will be replaced with a lighted message board sign on the other side of the driveway that predominently identifies us as St John Neumann Catholic Church. Third, will be the replacement of all seven furnace and air-conditioning units on the worship area roof. They have exceeded their life expectancy by tree years and are costly to effect repairs as needed. This will also allow us to address the issue of the leaks that have shown up over the years.
